The Death Of The Jewish People And Children Were Murdered...

Six million men, women, and children were murdered from 1939-1945. An attempted eradication of the Jewish people has left a permanent scar on the hearts of many. A scar that travels through time and generations, a scar that many would say is the single worst crime in human history. Genocide, mass murder and ethnic cleansing are not terms that can be associated solely with Jews. Systematic executions of ethnic, religious and racial groups have been ubiquitous throughout history. While there is no denying that the holocaust was particularly heinous, dark period in human history, I believe there have been other events in world history that parallel in motivation, magnitude, or both. In America, The judicial system tries a murder case on intent as well as the act. This derives from the idea that the compelling force to kill is just as cruel as the act itself Merriam-Webster defines motivation as â€Å"a force or influence that causes someone to do something.† So then what was Hitl er’s motivation? Anti-Semitism is the hatred of the Jewish people and Hitler is guilty of that. He accused the Jews of treason and stabbing Germany in the back, which ultimately led to the demise of Germany during World War I. His hate turned into obsession as a close friend of his, Albert Speer wrote, â€Å"The hatred of the Jews was Hitler’s driving force and central point, perhaps even the only element that moved him.† Hate is a destructive disease that corrupts an individual to the extent of leading them toShow MoreRelatedThe Holocaust : The World War I1157 Words   |  5 PagesAlyssa Dittman Ms.Dwiggins computers 2 22/9/2014 The Holocaust The word â€Å"Holocaust† was originally taken from the Greek word â€Å"Holokauston†. The Unpublished Ellison In the short story â€Å"I Never Learned Their Names† has many layers, and multiple meanings to people in different situations. This Ellison story relates to his â€Å"childhood, and his early examples of his lifelong fascination with American identity.† As I read the story I was confused about the exact underlying meanings. This is because I hadn’t looked into the story as it related to his early life. However when read again I began to see three main underlying meanings. The Underlying meanings are the personal issues that Ellison dealt with in his life, the journeys that Ellison took and cultures society in which he was living in. The first underlying meaning that I came across in the story â€Å"I Never Learned Their Names† was the personal issues that Ellison dealt with in his life. The main two issues that I saw Ellison dealing with was that he was a black man when racism was a major part of the life style, and also his problem that he had with money. Ralph being a black person was the first personal issue that I noticed. In the second paragraph of this story he writes that his buddy â€Å"got quite a kick out of having a Negro for a buddy. Why should it matter if somebody has a black friend, white friend, or a cream colored friend? A friend is a friend and you shouldn’t get a kick out of the color of there skin, but the personality in which they have. However, when Ellison was traveling it didn’t matter and Morrie had a lot of courage to be friends with Ellison. The second personal issue that I felt that Ellison had to deal with was his lack of money, which also derives from his childhood. His mother passed away and he and his brother were left with little money. In the story he has been traveling around trying to find work, so that he could get money to get an education. Cool Things to Do With Dry Ice - Chemistry

Cool Things to Do With Dry Ice - Chemistry Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide. It is called dry ice because its frozen, yet never melts into a liquid. Dry ice sublimates or makes the transition directly from frozen solid into carbon dioxide gas. If you are lucky enough to get some dry ice, there are lot of projects you can try. Here are some of my favorite cool things to do with dry ice. Homemade Dry Ice - First you need dry ice, so if you dont have any, make it! Dry Ice Fog - The classic project is to put a chunk of dry ice in hot water, causing it to produce clouds of vapor or fog. Dry Ice Crystal Ball - Place a piece of dry ice in a bowl or cup containing bubble solution. Wet a towel with bubble solution and pull it across the lip of the bowl, trapping the carbon dioxide into a giant bubble that resembles a crystal ball. Frozen Bubble - Freeze a soap bubble over a piece of dry ice. The bubble will appear to float in the air over the dry ice. Fizzy Fruit - Freeze strawberries or other fruit using dry ice. Carbon dioxide bubbles become trapped in the fruit, making it fizzy and carbonated. Singing or Screaming Spoon - Press any metal object against a piece of dry ice and it will appear to sing or scream as it vibrates. Dry Ice Ice Cream - You can use dry ice to make instant ice cream. Because carbon dioxide gas is released, the resulting ice cream is bubbly and carb onated, sort of like an ice cream float. Dry Ice Bubbles - Place a piece of dry ice in bubble solution. Fog-filled bubbles will form. Popping them releases dry ice fog, which is a cool effect. Simulate a Comet - Simulate a comet using dry ice and a few other simple materials. It will even produce a tail like a real comet. Dry Ice Jack-o-Lantern - Make a cool Halloween jack-o-lantern that spews dry ice fog. Dry Ice Erupting Volcano Cake - While you cant eat dry ice, you can use it as a decoration for food. In this project, dry ice produces a volcanic eruption for a volcano cake. Dry Ice Bomb - Sealing dry ice into a container will cause it to burst. The safest version of this is to place a small piece of dry ice into a plastic film canister or potato chip can with a pop lid.Inflate a Balloon - Seal a small piece of dry ice inside a balloon. As the dry ice sublimates, the balloon will blow up. If you use too big a piece of dry ice, the balloon will pop!Inflate a Glove - Similarly, you can put a piece of dry ice into a latex or other plastic glove and tie it closed. The dry ice will inflate the glove. Dry ice is a lot of fun to play with, but it is very cold, plus there are other hazards associated with it. Before attempting a project involving dry ice, be sure you are aware of dry ice risks. Have fun and be safe! Dry Ice Facts | Dry Ice Science Fair Projects

Polio Vaccine Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Polio Vaccine - Research Paper Example Polio victims constitute the vulnerable members of the population such as young children, pregnant women and people suffering from low immunity weakened by other medical conditions. Other risk factors associated with polio transmission include visiting polio prone areas, living with people suffering from the infection, working in the laboratory where scientists have kept live polio virus and removing tonsils. Poliovirus enters the environment through feces of an infected person. Transmission occurs through fecal-oral route via contaminated food and water. Additionally, direct contact with a victim can cause the transmission of poliovirus. People who stay close to one another for some time can experience the transfer of the virus from the infected to the new victim since it is highly contagious. The worst symptoms of polio are paralysis and death. Nonparalytic polio causes flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache and sore throat, vomiting, back and neck pain and muscle spasms, which last for a few days (John & Vashishtha, 2012). Forms of Polio Vaccines The forms of polio vaccines that have been recommended include inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) and oral polio vaccine (OPV). Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine IPV consists of a series of injections, which begin at two months after birth and continue until a child attains the age of four to six years. The reason for administering three spaced dozes is to generate adequate levels of seroconversion. Most countries consider adding a booster dose during adulthood. The inactivated poliovirus vaccine is created from inactivated poliovirus. Inactive poliovirus is safe and effective, thus cannot cause polio. Inactivated polio vaccine is made from killed wild-type poliovirus strains of each serotype. Doctors recommend lone dissemination for IPV or
